Q. I have downloaded the New version of Internet Explorer 7. I used to click on the email icon in Internet Explorer 6 but cannot find it in this newer version.

A. This icon is still present in Internet Explorer but is not shown by default. To make it visible, right-click on an empty part of the toolbar with the icons for Home and the Tools menu, and mouse over Customize Command Bar, which will pull up a submenu. Left click on Add or Remove commands. This will open the Customize Toolbar window. The second icon in the list should be Read Mail. Left-click on it once and then on the Add button. Click on it again and then use the Move Up or Move Down buttons to change its position on the toolbar. When you are satisfied with its position, click on Close.

This button will launch the email software that Windows thinks is the default. However, if it doesn’t work, this may mean that nothing has been selected as the default. To rectify this, left-click on the Tools menu in Internet Explorer and select Internet Options. Left-click on the Programs tab to show the different software that Internet Explorer uses. Click on the drop-down menu for email and select the program you use for emails. Click on OK to save the changes.
